Operational Manager
Hours: 21 hours per week (flexible)
Location: Home/remote, with occasional in-person meetings
Salary: £21,600 per annum (pro rata, equivalent to £36,000 FTE)
Contract: Permanent
We are looking for a practical, committed, and values-led Operational Manager to support our staff team and keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly.
GMCDP is a well-respected Disabled People’s Organisation, established in 1985. We have a long history of campaigning, influence, and grassroots action, led by and for disabled people. This is an exciting time to join us as we strengthen our internal systems and adapt to a period of change and growth.
As Operational Manager, you’ll play a central role in making sure our internal operations, staff support, and coordination of work stay on track – so that our campaigning and projects can thrive.
You’ll be someone who:
- Has experience coordinating people and projects in a community or voluntary sector setting
- Brings strong organisational and interpersonal skills
- Is confident managing staff and supporting a collaborative, inclusive workplace
- Shares our commitment to the Social Model of Disability and to working in a principled, rights-based way
You’ll work closely with our Chief Officer and staff team to ensure GMCDP remains responsive, efficient, and inclusive in how we operate day to day.
This is a part-time role (21 hours per week) with flexibility in how hours are worked.

Archive Project Assistant
Hours: 28 hours per week
Salary: Starting at £18,746 (which is £23,433 pro rata). With provision for a promotion after 12 months, then rising to £22,056 (£27,570 pro rata).
Location: Hybrid (Primary Location: Manchester Central Library) alongside remote working & community outreach visits Working hours: Monday – Thursday (alongside Archive Team)
Reports to: GMCDP CEO (supported by Archive Lead on day-to- day basis)

As the Archive Project Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the Archive Lead and Archive Project Worker to promote, showcase and make accessible the Disabled People’s Archive. You will support the smooth running of the project through undertaking administrative tasks, including: organising workshops, sessions, meetings and events; booking venues; arranging for access provision, such as BSL interpreters, personal assistants and taxis; adding updates to our website and social media; supporting our transcription work; supporting the maintenance of our archive and records; maintaining day-to-day communications, and responding to enquiries.
Full training will be provided for this role, including accessible standards for information provision, organising accessible events, and understanding archive systems and protocols.
There is scope for this role to develop into that of Archive Project Worker after the first twelve months.

As the Archive Catalogue Project Worker, you will work with the Archive Team to develop and promote our collection, support researchers to access our movement’s history, and promote disability equality and co-production in the libraries, archives, and heritage world.
The post holder will be responsible for cataloguing, repacking and digitising the Choice and Control collections, working with the Archive Lead and Archive Team to promote, showcase and make accessible these collections as part of the Disabled People’s Archive. Our “Choice and Control” project will engage with multiple audiences, including disabled people, disabled people’s organisations (DPOs), researchers, students, academia and the heritage sector.
Full training will be provided for this role in accessible standards of information provision and running accessible events, as well as archive systems and protocols where appropriate.

Oral Histories Consultancy Opportunity
Timescales: September 2025 – April 2027

Reporting to: CEO of GMCDP
GMCDP seeks a qualified oral historian to support our project in its entirety through providing oversight, guidance and advice in our approach to oral histories. It is important to us that oral history interviews (and associated activity) are carried out by disabled people, with disabled people, to ensure representative interviews. Capacity building is therefore an important element of this project, building skills across our project staff team, volunteers and active members in GMCDP.

Project Evaluator Opportunity
Timescales: September 2025 – April 2027
Budget: £4000
Reporting to: CEO of GMCDP
The consultant will:
· Provide guidance and expertise in the design and approach of our evaluation as part of our development phase, ensuring quality evaluation standards are embedded from the onset, including in our systems, methodology and approach (September – December 2025)
· Carry out evaluation days as part of our project plan, on a 3 monthly basis to enable action learning and ensure our delivery, approach and quality is to industry standards
· Carry out a mid-point project review in April 2026
· Working with the CEO and Project Lead, produce an end of project evaluation report in April 2027.
