Tell your MP: "No to disability benefits cuts!"

The Government is proposing swingeing cuts to disability benefits. These include:

  • Making it harder to get 'extra cost' benefits like Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which help disabled people to pay for expenses that come with impairment (therapies, treatments, specialist clothing, etc)
  • Moving tens of thousands of people who are too ill to work, or who can't find accessible work, into the main category of Universal Credit. This means that they will lose money, and that they can be sanctioned if they turn down work which would make their condition worse.
  • Freezing the rate for PIP, and cutting the rates for the 'Limited Capability for Work' element of Universal Credit. This will take money out of disabled people's pockets, even if they meet the tougher criteria.

We demand that the Government stick to its manifesto pledge of fully co-producing disability benefits rules with disabled people and our organisations. The proposed changes do nothing to help disabled people into work. All they do is take money out of our pockets to pay for the failure of previous governments.
