Write To Your MP to Stop Austerity

We have a brief window of time to affect the upcoming budget on Thursday November 17th.

Our GM Big Disability Survey has the hard evidence that shows further austerity will harm disabled people and lead to loss of life.

So to get that message to Westminster we need you to contact your MP and tell them to look at the survey report and to tell the government that austerity must end.

Paul Hunt was one of the founders of the Disabled People's Movement in Britain, and one of the first activists to argue for the social model of disability. Unfortunately, most of his writings have been out of print for nearly fifty years.

Making new homes accessible | our views on government consultation response

After a wait of almost two years since the initial consultation, this week the Government published its response to the Raising Accessibility Standards for New Homes Consultation.

GMCDP welcomes the proposal that all new homes (with limited exceptions) are to be built to the 'Accessible and Adaptable Dwellings', or M4(2), standard as laid out in Part M of the Building Regulations, an upgrade from the previous M4(1) 'Visitable Dwellings'.

Help shape the Greater Manchester Community Wealth Hub

In 2021, the Independent Inequalities Commission’s recommendation for Greater Manchester to: “Create a Community Wealth Hub to support and grow co-operatives, mutuals, social and community enterprises, staffed by people from the co-operative and community sector who understand the market”. Since that time, GM Combined Authority (GMCA) has been speaking with that sector to better understand why this Hub might be needed, and in March 2022 launched a co-design exercise which would enable people who might benefit from or supply services to the Community Wealth Hub to get involved.

The Big Disability Survey 2022 has launched!

The Greater Manchester Disabled People’s Panel has launched the ‘Big Disability Survey 2022’.  The survey, which was launched on Tuesday 28 June, is targeted at any disabled people who live or work across Greater Manchester and specifically aims to find out your attitudes and feelings towards the current cost of living crisis.

We're hiring for membership, communications and campaigning workers

We have secured five years of funding from The National Lottery to support our development and growth. 

This means we have two exciting job vacancies:

  • Membership worker
  • Communications and campaigning worker

These are fantastic opportunities to join a growing staff team and to be a part of the development and growth of one of Greater Manchester’s longest running disabled people’s organisations.

Job title: Archive lead

Hours: 21 hours per week

Salary: £28,000 per annum (£16,800 pro rata)

Line manager: GMCDP Manager (supported by Archives+ for specialist archives knowledge)

Location: Central Library (primary location) and occasional remote working 

Contract length: 2.5 years
