Job Vacancy - Greater Manchester Mayor’s Disabled People’s Panel Lead

Closing date: Monday 18th February

Salary: £31,100 (per annum, Pro rata)

Length of post: Currently, this is a fixed term post and will end on 31st March 2020

Hours: 21hours per week (to be worked flexible and to the needs of the Panel)

We believe that Greater Manchester is the first Combined Authority in the country to establish a formal partnership between Disabled People’s Organisations and the elected Mayor.

Be Bold and Breakthrough!

This is a free and accessible event with lunch provided.

A space for individual disabled women to hear from speakers, explore the women's movement and meet like minded people.

What you can expect from the day:

The UK Government is setting up regional disability networks but does not want to pay disabled people for their knowledge or time. This is Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People (GMCDP) take on the issue.

Get Life Savvy! “Disability and work – know your rights! How to get support, and find work that is accessible and inclusive for you”

In this workshop, we will talk about the employment rights of disabled people and support and adjustments you can get as a disabled employee, trainee, or applicant. We will also talk about job applications, and what you can do if you want to gain work experience while you are on out-of-work benefits.

Wednesday 23rd January: Queer Women: Disability and Sex.

6-8pm @ Pioneer Coffee, Federation House

Explore the challenges disabled people face in accessing a full and joyful sexual and romantic life with two disabled people who have lots of lovely sex!

This workshop is led by Charlie Hallam and Sez Thomasin who are Sheffield based disabled queer sex nerds who want to help everyone get the sex they truly want.

Come join the discussion on disability and discrimination and explore how communities can come together to tackle this important issue.

Consider questions such as:

• How can we challenge hate crime against disabled people?

• What changes should be made to work capability assessments?

• Why are disabled people still so invisible in our communities?

Nothing About Us Without Us activity day

1.00pm - 5.00pm

Drop in, explore the exhibition and meet some of the activists and campaigners that helped to put it together.

There is also a chance to make your own protest badge or placard and add to a collaborative banner in a printing workshop with Venture Arts.

Activities suitable for age 5+ but all ages welcome.

The museum is free to enter with a suggested donation of £5

All of us at GMCDP were very sad when we heard that Chris Hughes had died on 22 November 2018. We send our thoughts to Chris’s friends, and especially his family as Chris’s younger brother, Andrew, also died 2 days before Chris.
