Are We Oppressed?

Today, 3 December 2018, a key document which helped in the creation and understanding of the social model of disability is being published for the first time. Forty four years ago it was compiled by Vic Finkelstein in UPIAS, the new and radical Union of the Physically Impaired Against Segregation. He called it, Are We Oppressed? and issued it in the summer of 1974. It is now freely available online at https://tinyurl.com/yd7u9dc7 .

Improving Assisted Travel – A consultation on changes to guidance for train and station operators on Disabled People's Protection Policy (DPPP)

Closing date 18 January 2019

This consultation sets out proposals to change the Disabled People's Protection Policy (DPPP) Guidance for train and station operators on how to write their policies for assisting disabled people to travel by rail.

Consultation on banning the sale of plastic straws – last chance

Manchester Disability History Rocks!

A showcase of music and creativity by disabled artists from Manchester to celebrate International Day of Disabled People and kick off UK Disability History Month. Including performances by Manchester's very own Bee Vocal (Manchester Mental Health) Choir and famed disability singer/songwriter Johnny Crescendo.

Many disabled people experience hate crime, but there is not enough research that focuses upon individual experiences and understandings. This PhD project puts experience first in order to recognise and challenge people’s everyday experiences of hate and hate crime. Your experiences are crucial to gaining a better understanding of hate crime and how to tackle it.

Research Aims:

- This research aims to gain a better understanding of how disabled people experience and make sense of their experiences of ‘everyday hate’ and ‘hate crime’

We are looking for someone to support our team who inspect services for adults with a learning disability. They go out, talk to people get sevices and write reports for the Commissioners of Services.

Hours 16 per week:

Monday, Tuesday 10am to 3pm and Wednesday 9am to 3pm

Pay: £21,040 pro rata (actual pay £9,617.92)
