Celebrate The Difference With Pride! - An evening for LGBTQ disabled people

This is a safe space for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and/or queer disabled people.

The evening will be flexible. If people who come along just want to chat then that’s what we will do, but if you would like to share a song, poem or short piece of prose we will have a couple of ‘open mic’ sessions.

There will be non-alcoholic drinks and some vegan finger food to keep us all going (but not enough for a full meal each).

We will have a badge machine so those of us who like badges can have some fun making pride or campaign badges.

Surveys to consider

At the moment there are two surveys it may be worth thinking of completing. GMCDP is not endorcing these surveys, but it is important that disabled people’s experiences are also taken into account.

Unfortunately, one of the surveys does not have a section to ask whether or not a respondant is a disabled person (Women’s Say).

  1. A national survey to understand the experiences of LGBT people, from the Government Office for Equalities is at:

Review Claims Crisis Point in Services for Learning Disabled People

‘Back to Bedlam is a review of public policy and practice for supporting people with learning difficulties which has recently been published by the Centre for Welfare Reform.

The report highlights an increased reliance on institutional services, often run by large profit-making corporations, along with a decline in support which it argues has been exaserbated by austerity measures. It is also stated that the changes in policy have not been challenged by charities, advocacy organisations or academics, which has led to the general public not being aware of the crisis.
