GMCDP is looking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated worker to engage and work with young disabled people (aged 13-25), using a variety of techniques that best support the needs of the young people. This could include facilitation of group discussion, art based/drama sessions and/or working one to one with young disabled people to identify and support the attainment of personal goals. The purpose of the project is to support and maximise the self-development of young disabled people and to increase their independence and autonomy.
· Hours negotiable: minimum of 10 hours, maximum 16
· Rate £12.50 an hour.
· Fixed term post to 31st March 2018. We hope to continue and expand the project from 1st April, but this is dependent on securing further funding.
· This could be on a self-employed basis if preferred.

The Post: Project Worker (Self Developed Project)
Salary: £22,750 per annum pro rata

Purpose of the job
To support and encourage young disabled people aged 13 to 25, who live in Manchester, to increase their confidence, self esteem, skills and knowledge, thereby increasing their involvement in youth opportunities and preparing them to take an active role in the community.
Main duties:
- Organise, run and/or facilitate a programme of themed small group sessions and discussion groups on issues pertinent to young disabled people, encouraging self-advocacy, peer support and discussion. Sessions to be delivered at GMCDP’s offices and outreach sites across Manchester.
- Undertake outreach work in Manchester to publicise the work of the project and to make contact with young disabled people.
- Encourage and support young disabled people, on a one to one and group basis, to become involved in the project and other local youth services and opportunities.
- Represent the project as required at external meetings and events.
- Work with colleagues to develop a network of contacts and build links with other agencies and organisations of disabled people that supports the work of the project.
- Carry out monitoring and evaluation of project activities and produce regular progress reports for management and funders.
- Monitor and adhere to project budgets.
- Undertake such other duties that may from time to time be required for the smooth running of the organisation.
- The job will involve attending and running meetings and events during the evenings and weekends.
All staff members are equally responsible for opening and closing the office in accordance with GMCDP’s policies and procedures.

1.1 Knowledge of the social model of disability and the main barriers facing young disabled people.
1.2 Understanding of equal opportunities and anti-oppressive working practices.
1.3 Understanding of the importance and limitations of confidentiality.
1.4 Understand the role of advocacy in supporting young disabled people.
2. Skills
2.1 Proven ability to communicate and network with both groups and individuals in a variety of settings.
2.2 Ability to write and appropriately present a variety of information, such as project flyers and resources, in accessible and creative ways.
2.3 Able to support young disabled people to identify their needs and aspirations and make all aspects of the project accessible and relevant to them.
- Have the skills to support young disabled people to run their own meetings/events, contribute to the development of the project and access mainstream services.
2.5 Able to plan and prioritise own workload in meeting the project targets.
2.6 Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
3. Experience.
3.1 Experience of working with young people aged 15 to 25 on a one to one basis and in small groups (this can be in paid or unpaid work)
3.2 Experience of organising and running accessible events, meetings or other group activities.
3.3 Experience of monitoring and evaluating project activities.

4.1 must be a disabled person (self definition).
