It is with deepest regret that GMCDP has learnt of the sad passing of Mike Marrow (47).
Mike was a valued and key member of the Young Disabled People's Forum and the related drama group throughout the 1990s, into 2000 and beyond. Mike will be remembered as an exceptionally kind man, who despite facing his own injustices, was thoughtful and compassionate towards others. Mike never forgot to send a card to mark a special occasion, or to express a kindness to others facing adversity.
Mike was a longstanding and valued member of the young disabled people's drama group who gave his all to deliver disability equality messages to a wide range of audiences. Mike travelled UK wide with the drama group, his peers, and friends, to challenge disabilist views and to contribute to change. Mike has talked about this time in the drama group as high point in his life, making great friends, being part of a community of disability activists and having fun.
Mike was a keen lover of WA Wrestling, Rock Music and Blackpool, where he visited with his family and friends. Mike will be remembered as someone with immense kindness, committment and compassion. GMCDP offers its deepest condolescences to Mike's brother, Brian and to his family and friends. Rest in Peace Mike.
[Image descriptions: There are two photographs: the first is of a group of four young disabled people. Mike, a young white man with curly hair and glasses (back left) looks towards the camera with friends from the young disabled people's forum. They are winding down in what looks like a bar with arcade machines in the background. The photograph was taken after delivering a drama performance to Social Service staff (2004). The second shows MIke as part of a group of young disabled people on a protest in London. They are being filmed by a TV crew]
