Could you be a member of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s new Disability Advisory Committee?

We are looking for a number of people with disability expertise to join the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s new Disability Advisory Committee.

The Commission’s remit is to promote equality and diversity, work towards the elimination of unlawful discrimination and harassment and promote and protect human rights. It is a National Equality Body and accredited UN National Human Rights Institution. It acts as strategic enforcer of the law and guardian of legal rights, ensuring that rights are protected in law and in practice.

The Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) is an advisory Committee of the Equality and Human Rights Commission which brings together disability expertise to inform the Commission’s decision-making across all its work.

We are looking for high-performing individuals to complement the skills of the existing DAC members. We want people who have the capability to advise on credible and innovative strategies for removing the barriers that stop disabled people from taking a full and equal part in society. Strategic-thinking, externally-focused and results-orientated, you are likely to be a high-profile, highly-regarded leader within sectors such as business, the third sector, academia, legal services or human rights.

You will have a track record of driving change, influencing strategy, challenging complacency and making a positive impact at the highest level.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future and to deliver equality for disabled people.

We welcome applications from as diverse a range of applicants as possible and particularly encourage people with lived experience of disability to apply.

If you believe you have the knowledge, expertise and commitment to undertake one of these roles, we would like to hear from you.

Appointments will initially be for two years, subject to performance appraisal. Committee members will be remunerated at £250 per day plus reasonable expenses as agreed by the Commission. Each Committee member will be expected to commit to 12 days per year.

Closing date: 5pm on Friday 24 November.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates are expected to be held in central London and central Manchester in December.
