GMCDP is turning 40 this year! Since 1985, we’ve fought for disabled people to have control over our own lives, challenge inequality, and take our rightful place at the heart of our region. Along the way, we’ve built powerful friendships—with D/deaf and disabled groups, trade unions, community organisations, anti-racist and feminist activists, environmentalists, campaigning lawyers, and many more.
We’re proud of everything we’ve built together, and we’d love for you to celebrate with us! This July, we’re hosting an exciting series of events—campaign meetings, T-shirt making, performance art, and a proper knees-up.
But the fight isn’t over.
Disabled people are still too often excluded, institutionalised, segregated, and ignored. We know the communities you work with experience many of the same barriers. That’s why we want you to help us set the record straight.
Send Us Your Video: What Needs to Change?
We’re asking friends and allies to send us a birthday message—with a twist. Record a short (30-second) video telling us what change you and your community want to see in our region, country, or world. We’ll compile 40 videos—one for every year of GMCDP—as a record of our movement’s demands.
Together, let’s create a vision of the future we’re fighting for—one that inspires our supporters and makes it clear to those in power what must change.
How to Film & Submit Your Video:
- Use any recording device (phone, laptop webcam, camcorder). If needed, ask someone to help you start/stop recording.
- Keep your message under 30 seconds so we can feature as many voices as possible.
- Speak or sign clearly and at a steady pace so everyone can understand.
- Follow this format:
- Start with a greeting: "Hello, my name is..." / "Hello, we are [your organisation]..."
- Wish us a happy birthday! "Happy 40th Anniversary, GMCDP!"
- Tell us what needs to change: "One thing I/we want to change is..." (Focus on a change for disabled people in the UK.)
