Job vacancy at CHANGE

CHANGE’s purpose is to challenge the injustices experienced by people with learning disabilities by addressing issues of power. Working as equal partners of people with disabilities, we use new ways to drive change and enable genuine inclusion.

CHANGE is joining the Advonet group from September 1st. Advonet is a Leeds-based advocacy organisation with complementary vision and values to those of CHANGE. The move will free CHANGE up to focus on its strengths of securing social justice for people with learning and other disabilities.

"On the anniversary itself, our campaign will be holding a vigil soon after the reading of the names of the Peterloo Protesters who were massacred.

As discussions are still ongoing with Manchester City Council and the artist, it is important that we continue to raise our placards high. We have been amazingly successful so far but we are not there yet and a good solution has still not been devised, but we are hoping to have more news next week.

Disabled People’s History Finds A Home In Manchester

Wednesday 19 June will see the launch in Manchester of the GMCDP Archive (Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People).

The Archive consists of hundreds of documents and other artefacts which evidence the struggle for equality and recognition undertaken by disabled people’s organisations in the 20th and 21st Centuries.

The archive has been deposited with Manchester’s Archives+, who are providing a substantial level of support with cataloguing and preservation as well as housing the collection.

Inaccessible Peterloo massacre memorial causes protest storm

Disabled activists have criticised a council for pushing ahead with “discriminatory” plans for a memorial to victims of the Peterloo massacre – who died 200 years ago in the cause of equality – that will be completely inaccessible to many disabled people.
